A Little Break

Apparently we all took last week off. I was a little backed up with work and so I let it slide. Unfortunately that meant none of us ran. Then I got a cold and so it kicked my butt yesterday. I more or less crawled the last 1/3 of my run. It took 41 minutes to complete 2.51 miles. I was really disappointed in myself. But allowing for being sick I'm going with il just glad I went.

These two little ones ran their first mile today. They did it in 17:57. Not bad. We are working on it. I may have us just keep doing a mile until their time is up. Or maybe just play it by ear and see when they are bored. I don't know. We shall see.

Everyone Wants In

Because I didn't run yesterday I ran by myself and with M and D today. I was very happy with my run today. I ran 2.43 miles in 32:46. Not too shabby and I'm happy with the longer distance and time. Sort of working up to the 3 mile mark. It felt good. I was sort of frustrated on my way out but by the time I came home I felt really good.

Running with these cuties was a little harder though. And sadly they came in at just slightly off their last time. They did .8 miles (two times around our block) in 13:54 which is only a tiny bit longer than that took last time. However, I think it's my fault I was a little more tired and had a hard time pushing them when they slowed down.

As we were on our way out the door the little guy insisted that he wanted to run. Since he couldn't come with us Hubby took him out and he ran about halfway around the block. He was so happy with himself.

Hubby and S are out running now. The other night when Hubby went alone he did 3 miles in about 30 minutes - 29 something - so I'm interested to see what they do together tonight.

Not Today

Sadly I was not able to get out and run today. My plan is to run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday every week by myself but today was too busy. In kind of sad about it. I missed it. So, to make up for that I'm going to run by myself tomorrow and with the girls. However, since I have no new running news today I will share some more pictures from the dark side run.

Boba Fett was a very fun meet at the start of the day. The kids were all excited to meet him. Especially Miss M.
He shocked us by talking. He looked right at Miss M and he said "excellent!" She was so happy!!

Second Time Out

Tonight was the second time my girls and I went out running. I'm sort of making up a 5Kntraining program for them. They would both like to run the princess 5K next February. It's kind of a long time from now but it gives us lots of time to get ready. So I took them out the other day and we went out for about 9 minutes. We went around our block one time and then a little more. Both girls felt they wanted to do more. So, today they did around the block twice. It was .82 miles min 13.33 minutes. Not bad really. It was a little harder so I think we will do around the block twice a few more times before we add anymore in.

The best part is that they both love it. They were so happy. They are super excited to go for the 5K. D was struggling a little and said she felt it might be too much but when given the opportunity to go home instead of finishing she decided to finish. M said she liked the way running made her feel. I love that. I think that's super amazing and will serve her well in the journey to be healthier b

Thirty minutes

It's been my personal goal to run for thirty minutes for awhile now. I've been coming home at around 27 minutes and been struggling to force myself to go the extra three minutes. Today I did it. I ran 2.19 miles in exactly 30 minutes.

It felt good. It was a somewhat meager goal but still I'm glad to have reached it. My hope is to eventually be able to run 3 miles in 30 minutes.

Tomorrow I will take the girls out running again. Last time they did .51 miles in 9 minutes. Which is a little on the slow side but is still a pretty good first try. I wonder what will happen tomorrow.

Dark Side 10K 2016

Seeing as how this was our first run and is the real starting point of our journey I suspect I will tell memories from it on more than one occasion. Plus I should at least share the fun pictures. I will probably say this a lot but I love Disney memory maker and photopass!

I'm still somewhat in shock they actually did this. It was basically on a whim that we signed up.
I think it was a really nice relationship boost for Hubby and S. Plus exercise is good and I do like that we are trying to teach our kids to incorporate exercise into the things you like to do.
And one is in the bag!
Official time is 1:32:10 for Hubby and 1:32:11 for S. And that's with stopping to see some fun characters (I will share those pictures another day). Not too shabby guys!

Where It Began

At the writing of this we are a family just embarking on a journey to become runners. We did the runDisney dark side race in April and had a very good time. Hubby and S ran the 10K. They did a bit of training but mostly they just ran it. M, D, and R ran the kids races. Sadly i didn't run anything because I was too slow at signing up for the 5K. None the less the weekend was a blast. The kids all loved running and want to do more.

We have decided to let this push us to a healthier life and to all train to do the hardest race the children are allowed to do. Even though Hubby and I might consider doing the half marathon or the marathon we are running with the kids and they won't be old enough for those.

As of today M, D, and I have begun our running schedule and Hubby and S will most likely begin theirs in the next day or so. I don't know what is going to happen but I plan to simply use this space to chronicle our journey. Who knows we may give it up in a few weeks. Or we may end up being very committed and enjoying it a lot. If that happens I think I will like having a spot to go back and see how far we have all come
